PFX Perineometer

PFX2 is a low cost consumer medical product to give feedback during pelvic floor exercises. The readout is a purpose designed totally mechanical low hysteresis pressure gauge in an integrated casing. The dial is driven by a patented rolling conical diaphragm actuator to give more sensitivity at low pressures to encourage beginners with low muscle tone. Designed for the life of the user without maintenance through the use of dust resistant knife-edge bearings throughout. Materials: ABS, PVC and acetyl plastics, LSR (silicone elastomer) and a stainless steel spring. All parts are produced from just four moulds; which have no sliding cores, for simplicity and long life. Assembly is by snap fit, with no welding or fasteners. For more details see Cardio Design.

The three moving part acetyl jam-proof mechanism, can be seen in blue and red through the case. The red button switched from low to high load range. This was replaced in the more sensitive PFX2 by a zeroing knob, after physiotherapists around the world, using the PFX, gathered data previously unavailable.

PFX1 at half pressure

The blue pointer is showing about half pressure, and the yellow rolling diaphragm can be seen extended. The range button, shown on setting "1" is changed to "2" by pressing the side shown and back to "1" by pressing the hidden side. The mechanism has a positive snap action and one moving part.
